Industrial Relations Policies In Asia
In order to thrive and develop its economy quickly, the Japanese government targeted certain industries to focus aid to, and the Japanese public largely supported the government’s goal.
Targeting Particular Industries
During the postwar Japan, still in its developmental stage, the governments targeting of particular industries was responsible for successful economic recovery and growth.
The selected industries included manufacturing sectors (e.g., computers, other electronics, steel, and auto industries). Much of this success became apparent when Japan surpassed the U.S. in exports and was asked to alter its economic structure by the U.S. in the 1980’s.
